In July, 2022 MOL was announced as the winner for the Hungarian state concession tender covering municipal waste management services.
According to the concession agreement, the awarded bidder will be responsible for providing municipal waste management services as a single licensor in Hungary covering the whole industry value chain for municipal solid waste.
The main commitment areas that come with the concession agreement are the following:
• Municipal waste management
• Institutional waste management
• Developing waste collection and pre-treatment infrastructure
• Operating EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) system
• Implementing and operating DRS system
• Nationwide behaviour and attitude formation regarding responsible waste handling
MOHU will be responsible for handling municipal solid waste, and also those waste products which fall under the EPR policy.
The exact waste streams which fall under the scope of the concession are the following:
• Municipal solid waste
• Biological, organic waste
• Metals, WEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment), ELV (End-Of-Life Vehicles), Used Batteries
• Plastics, Used tyres
• Glass, Wood packaging, Paper packaging, UCO (Used Cooking Oil), Textile waste
